From the Horse’s Mouth: Definitely No Flash on the iPad

March 29, 2010 by jschneier

Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak with someone that works at Apple who confirmed that not only would there be no Flash support on the iPad but that it was relatively silly to think that there would be.

I asked him if this was Apple making a stand to move us towards HTML5 but he said that it had nothing to do with that. The real reason is that Flash was created for mouse interactivity. Flash assumes that your eyes are where the mouse is pointed. But since the iPad has no mouse and doesn’t really function in that way then it would never work on an iPad/iPhone.

He compared it to using metal wheels on an asphalt road. It just doesn’t work, no matter how good it worked in the past it isn’t going to work here.

So there we have it….good thing Brightcove is porting things over to HTML5.

How a flash less world is batter world. Flash provide the most rich media for any kind of graphics and multimedia device. Adobe flash media provide best stream and online accessing media using high def codecs. Apple should really think about adding adobe system in i-pad and future Apple devices.
